I came across this video by Hartness Library at Community College of Vermont (embedded on the Not Safe for Libraries blog). My public library could benefit hugely from producing and sharing instructive videos such as this. Also, this spiel, if it could miraculously be delivered in one or two sentences, is something that all librarians need when asked the oh-so-common question, but who goes to libraries anymore when “everything’s on the Web?” I do enjoy the equivalent of dawn breaking on someone’s face when I introduce them to a database and tell them that it’s “free” if you have a library card. Here’s the Christmas Day challenge: leave me a one or two sentence spiel that can be used at parties and libraries everywhere. 🙂
